Hello. I just found Pocket Tactics today by accident. I am Dan Huffman and I am a long-term resident of Japan (40+ years) from Johnstown Pennslyvania USA. I love strategy and tactics games, especially turn-based. I got a bunch on them on my Mac, PC, iPhone and iPad. I also like perfect information board games like Othello. I also developed such a game called The Octagon Theory for iOS. The free version on the iTunes App Store is called Simple Board Game. Please give it a try and let me know here what you think of it. If you don't have nd iOS device you can play the Flash version online at http://TheOctagonTheory.com. But you'll need a friend to play as it doesn't have AI like the iOS versions have.

Hi, I'm Chris, live in Brooklyn NYC. Not at all a hardcore gamer but I've been hooked on Battle Academy lately which is really my first serious foray into iOS games.

Hi, I'm Chakie and used to be a hardcore strategy gamer. Everything that SSI made in the 1980:s was good. :) Today I'm less hardcore and want good strategy games for the iPad and I also develop wargames in my limited free time.

Forgot to do this how rude.

British, often overcome with a terrible lassitude, loves strategy games and is very easily amused.

Hi, I'm a London born British gamer with a love of turn based mechanics and RPGs. I'm recently exploring the world of iOS gaming (other half just got an iPad) but am a self confessed Windows fanboy and am thoroughly looking forward to the Win8 tablet (and phone OS update). :)

Stumbled across the site today and Was excited about the focus on strategy games for the mobile platform which are two things I enjoy. Love checking out new strategy games to see new mechanical wrinkles.

Not a hardcore player of any games currently but I enjoy a wide variety of iOS and PC titles. Primarily strategy and RPG.

About myself... Turning 30, born and raised in Wisconsin USA. Game center is mattking82. Getting into Hero Academy, Outwitters and hopefully Ascension and Summoner Wars invite me for a game or to talk about some other interesting strategy gems available (sometimes more enjoyable than even playing for me)

Hello, I'm Duke from 'Merika. I'm fairly heavily into iOS gaming, which came along at a perfect time for me; things like starting a family, moving into my first real house, and switching jobs left me with (almost) literally no time to set up, play, and tear down actual physical games.

I enjoy multiplayer gaming more than I thought I would, with my current go-to games being Ascension, Neuroshima Hex, Carcassonne, and Ticket to Ride Pocket. Summoner Wars looks great so far, although I appear to be astonishingly average at it. OTOH, I'm the best N. Hex player you've ever met ...

I'm really digging this site and I wish I'd found it earlier. I'm pretty much GameCenter-friending all y'all.

Hey all, I was born in the land of rotten shark, dried fish and failed banks (Iceland), but have been living in the land of great beer, exquisite chocolates and failed government (Belgium) for the last 5 years. Long time reader, but only just signed up. Mostly playing Ascension online these days, but also enjoy Puerto Rico, Outwitters, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride and others. A bit board game oriented, but most anything that can be played casually over a few days will do. GCID: bjornkri

    Added on GC!

Also FWIW, I loved Iceland the week I was there. To me, it was like some crazy D&D vista without the monsters. Coulda used some gold to pay for the food, though. (This was pre-financial crash Iceland.)

Oh, incidentally, I'm Jim from the US. I live near Boston, but I grew up around Chicago. I'm also a fan of asynchronous turn-based games, as it's basically the only multiplayer that fits into my life now.

Jeff here, from Cincinnati, USA. Started my computer gaming with Wizardry on my Apple ][+. Graduated to Civilization and Master of Orion for MS-DOS. Then Doom came along and, IMO, spoiled computer gaming forever by creating the first-person shooter. I switched to cardboard gaming with Carcassonne, Catan, Dominion and the like. Now iOS gives me all of this in one great little device.

I found this Pocket Tactics site looking for information about Ravenmark (which I found, thanks, Owen!) and I plan to stay.

I'm up for multiplayer gaming with my fellow PT-ers in Carcassonne, Ascension, Nightfall, Neuroshima Hex, Starbase Orion, or Outwitters. PM me if you want to battle.

Hi, my name's Marcus. I'm a neuroscience student at the University of Texas at Austin. I've been reading Pocket Tactics for a while, so I finally figured I should join up.

I play a lot of games, but lately I've been playing Great Big War Game, Hunters II, Ascension, and a lot of Organ trail (nostalgia FTW).

Look forward to talking / playing with all of you!

Hey everyone! My name's Ed, and I found this site via a link from Andrew Doull's blog "Ascii Dreams".

I haven't played many tactics games lately, but I used to play a lot of Advance Wars (the two DS ones) and got stuck somewhere in the campaigns! Also used to play the two Final Fantasy Tactics Advance games... man, the DS is awesome for these sorts of games! Then there's Battle for Wesnoth, which I used to play with my brother...

Actually, one game I've played a bit recently is Tactikon, a rather simple game for Android... surprised no one's mentioned it on these forums yet! (Yes, I did search!)

Hello everyone. I'm James from Wales in the uk. I have a wide range of gaming tastes, but really like my strategy games. I play a lot of iOS strategy games, my daily routine consists of ascension, nightfall and neuroshima hex games. I also play PC strategy games and it is my fervent wish that one day Vic Davis will suddenly discover the iPad and port Armageddon empires to the AppStore along with Solium infernum and six gun saga. In fact anything else he would like to put in iOS would be fine by me! I'm looking forward to panzer corps coming to iPad and hopefully we can see some grand strategy games coming to iPad in the future.
My GC ID is scarypharaoh and I welcome any invites for games, due to the nature of work and family life, my preferred mode of play is asynchronous. Never know when it's nappy changing emergency time etc. I've only recently discovered the site, but I'm really impressed that its clear, informative, concise and grown up. Long may it continue!
    Cheers
    James

Where to begin? My love for computer gaming started with my uncle, who built his own computer back in the '70s and taught me BASIC and computer programming principles. I've been a wargamer for many years, from the classic Avalon Hill and SSI boardgames like Panzer Blitz and Squad Leader, to computer-based games like Panzer General. The early days of computer gaming were so much fun; games like Avalon Hill's Midway were written in BASIC, so it was simple to hack the game and give the Enterprise, Hornet and Yorktown 999 aircraft each to attack the Japanese fleet, for example. Some kids my age built model train tables. I built my own modular sand table set for miniatures wargaming instead, and painstakingly painted lead T-34 and PzKW IV miniature tanks. Those were wonderful times. Now our hobby is moving and adapting to the mobile OS platform, bringing strategy gaming to a new generation of armchair generals. @Owen, thanks so much. I love the site and the international community here, and look forward to playing with other strategy gaming fans around the world in the years to come.

Been enjoying the articles on this website in the past few weeks and thought I register. I'm Liz from Singapore, and I enjoy turn based strategy games and RPGs on a solo basis. Was a big fan of games such as Age of Wonders, Steel Panthers and Talonsoft wargames back when I was a PC gamer. These days I mostly game on portables, and enjoy games such as Wesnoth, Battle Academy and various tactical strategy games on the ipad. Hope to be making meaningful contributions in this community but I think I'd be mostly lurking. Cheers to you all!

Hello.. I've been reading the site for a while and, to be honest, only just realised that there was a forum too. Thought I'd join in the fun.

I'm a Brit but have been living in Shanghai for a year now. I used to be an avid PC gamer for many years although have gone off that a bit as the years have caught up with me. I now pretty much only dabble in the occasional iPad game, but i'm still interested in the genre overall.

Favourites include Qin, Tigris & Euphrates, Elder Sign, Magic and a few others, but it's really hard to keep my attention these days. Battle of the Bulge is the one I'm most pumped for currently...

Hi @Warth0g, I like most of the games you mentioned too and am always looking for opponents. My GC Name is BlackFire1929 . Your GC name is the same as you name here? And a request to @owen on that issue: it would be great if we could make our profiles here more detailed if we requested (optional), so we could for example add our GC names, regions we come from or live in, languages we speak and other issues.

The official Ascension forums did this a few weeks ago; GC names are now displayed in profiles. Makes it very easy to start a game.

I second this request, @Owen. Work some of your coding-fu, if you'd be so kind.

Hi guys, I'm Namu and living in Canada by way of Korea. I've played a lot of sports and FPS games on the PC and PS2, but I'm exploring new ground with the iOS world and strategy board and card games. My cousin got me into it by introducing the gateway drug that's known as Ascension :D He also got me into Ticket to Ride, but now I'm thinking of injecting some more Playdek games into my life. I may be going down a slippery slope lol. Please feel free to send me a game request!

Hi all, Jonathan from Cape Town here. Like most of you, I grew up gaming since the '80's, starting with the ZX Spectrum. I've been through the consoles too (not too much on PC) but find that iOS is my main platform nowadays.

I have very little experience with the strategy and boardgame genres, only starting to get into them via their suitability to the iPad. I've downloaded many already, based largely on the information provided on PT - these include Battle Academy, Ascension, Summoner Wars, Magic: The Gathering, Ticket to Ride, Battle of the Bulge, Carcassone, Outwitters, 10000000, Plague Inc. and Lost Cities. Now it's a case of actually getting down to playing them! Although given the inordinate amount of time I'm currently spending on Lost Cities, that could take a while...

This is a superb site - please keep up the great work!

I look forward to plenty multi-player games with you soon.
