Lack of branching storyline is fine, I know it means a lot more work for the dev and I'm perfectly happy with it not being included as long as what you do get is still good. What really boils my piss in interactive fiction is where they present you with a branching storyline that leads you to the same characters and places irrespective of what you choose. In one fell swoop, they have rendered their work pointless, my 'choices' entirely redundant, and me silent with rage.

Yeah, that's definitely not a criticism you can level at this game. Everything you do ends up mattering somewhere. More than you can say for Mass Effect 3. :D

I'm on a bit of a space scifi streak currently (Infinite Space on DS, Vernor Vinge's A Fire upon the Deep, FTL on my PC, Battlestar Galactica on telly) so may give this a shot.

Incidentally, UKians, I found out it will only cost me about £20 to change my name, thinking of sticking "Excelsior" in there somewhere. Pretty fucking rad.
